Adam Hawkins

Chief - Elected Position

Adam Hawkins is the current Bergheim VFD Fire Chief. Adam is a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic for the San Antonio Fire Department. He has been a certified firefighter since 2005 and has worked for Boerne Fire Department and Castle Hills Fire Department before getting hired at SAFD. Adam has been a member of Bergheim Fire since September 2010.

Over the years, he has received extensive training in structural and Wild-land fire fighting, Vehicle Extrication, Water Rescue, and Rope Rescue. He is certified by the State of Texas as an EMT/Paramedic.


Adam has been a lifetime resident of Kendall County and now resides in Waterstone. He is married and has two children. 

Kevin Meyers

Assistant Fire Chief - Appointed

Kevin has served with the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department since its inception in 2009. Since 2019 Kevin has served as the Asst. Chief and Training Coordinator. Previously he served as a Captain from 2015 through 2019 and as a Lieutenant from 2012 through 2015.


He has received formal training in swift water rescue, rope rescue, vehicle extrication, and pump operations. 


In 2013, Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He served as an Emergency Medicine Nurse at a local hospital from 2015 through 2020. Currently, he is employed with a local Air Medical Helicopter service as a Flight Nurse.


He is married with one son and with a second on the way. He enjoys spending time with his family and the great outdoors in his spare time.

Christopher Perez

Captain

Captain Christopher Perez has been a member of the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) since 2012. Capt. Perez has held the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant, and Captain and was awarded Bergheim Firefighter of the year in 2013. Perez oversees issuing structural firefighting gear to Bergheim's membership and providing training to Bergheim's volunteers.


Perez graduated from Boerne High School in 2011 and completed his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal justice in 2016 at the university of Texas at San Antonio. Perez obtained his EMT Certification through the University of Texas Health Science Center before completing his Paramedic Certification in 2019. Perez received his TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter by challenging the state exam through SFFMA in 2019. Perez holds Driver Operator-Pumper and Driver operator-Aerial certifications through TCFP and is certified in Rescue 1 Rope Rescue A/O, Rescue VI Rope Rescue Technician, and Vehicle Rescuer 1.


Capt. Perez currently works Full Time with Bexar County 2 Fire Department, where he is a Firefighter and Paramedic FTO. He provides EMS and fire suppression coverage to the west side of Bexar County.


Outside of the fire service, Capt. Perez works part-time for Code Red Safety, where he solidifies his rope rescue skills by providing rescue services for industrial energy plants. When not at work or engaging BVFD volunteers with his knowledge and experience, Perez can be found dreaming of Rugby strategies, working out at the gym, or riding his motorcycle when the weather allows.

Paul Knoll

Lieutenant

Paul Knoll has been a member of the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department since 2016, achieving his current rank in 2019, after demonstrating his skills as a firefighter and engineer with great success.


Lt. Knoll is currently the Kendall County Constable for Precinct 2. He served for 20 plus years as a police officer and as a fire explosion investigator for more than 11 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Entomology and proudly earned his Eagle Scout as a young man. Lt. Knoll previously volunteered at the Colusa Rural Fire Protection District for 5 years as a Firefighter, EMT, Rescue Squad, and Fire Investigator.


Lt. Knoll has received fire training in Driver Operator, Vehicle Extrication, EMT Basic, Gas/Oil Fire School, and has logged 350 plus hours in Fire Explosion Investigation training. In addition, he has received instruction in several Law Enforcement disciplines ranging from accident investigations and EVOC training to Interview and Interrogation techniques and Emergency/Tactical Response.


Lt. Knoll is married with five children. In his infrequent moments of spare time, Lt. Knoll is a competitive Shotgun shooter, a High School Baseball Umpire, a private pilot and a Beekeeper.
